Who knows how bad pancakes are for you?
Who wants a recipe for healthy protein pancakes???? I DO! Yay!
I made these Sunday morning and they are delicious! I was pleasantly pleased with their consistency and flavor. Now, just because they are a better pancake then most, don't use them for an excuse to eat pancakes every weekend. Treat yourself and your family every once and a while to fun foods like this!
I used Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, but followed the rest of the recipe. I put real butter and sprinkled cinnamon on the top before consuming! I ate three for breakfast and still had 4 left over for snacks this week. Yummy!
Enjoy!

Excuses
I will just start tomorrow… I’m just not feeling it today…
I’m tired… My boss was mean to me… I have no time… It’s so cold outside… It’s
so hot outside… It looks like it might rain… My back hurts… But it tastes so
good… My dog had to pee… My alarm didn’t go off… I’m sore… My friend asked me
to hang out… I don’t want to get sweaty…
Let me introduce you to my nemesis, the world of “excuses.” They seem so innocent at first,
but as we keep allowing ourselves to make them, they will add up to one huge
mess.
Listen, we are all trying to survive in this crazy thing
called life. Some of us seem to have it better than others, but that is all in
the eyes of the beholder. We need to start being honest with ourselves about
what we want in life, and stop making excuses.
Let’s take going to the gym for example. I have heard EVERY
excuse in the book about why someone isn’t coming to the gym. People will say
they don’t know what to do. They hate sweating. They complain about not having
the body they want, but are not willing to take the time to even step foot into
a gym. OR, there are people who only come one or two days a week, then give up
after three weeks because they didn’t see the changes they wanted to see. They
make the excuse that exercise is doing nothing and quit coming to the gym. Do
you really think you will see changes exercising only two days a week? NO!
Let’s take eating well for our next example. I have also
heard EVERY excuse when it comes to nutrition. The excuses about the nutrition
side always seem to be worse than the exercise. People will make excuses about
not having any other options, no time to get food, their spouse doesn’t eat
that way, they don’t like veggies, healthy food costs too much, it looks funny,
it smells funny, and cooking takes too long. People will complain that they aren’t losing
weight after two weeks of eating “better than before.” Well, what exactly is
“better than before?” Are you drinking three sodas a day instead of five? Are you still slipping through a fast food
restaurant instead of making food at home because you just didn’t have time?
Whether it comes to exercise or nutrition, people are not
only making excuses, they are excusing themselves from being liable for their
decisions! This way, when they don’t reach their goals, which they won’t on
this track, it’s not their fault.
Fun fact: did you know that preparing food at home is
actually proven to be faster than going through a drive through!
When are we going to stop making excuses? Did you know that
if you are tired, stressed, sore, etc.… exercise will help you with energy,
stress relief, and relieve sore legs and backs?!
There is NOT ONE excuse in the books that I couldn’t
rebuttal and prove that eating well and exercise won’t make it better than
before! STOP making excuses when it comes to your health and fitness. Learn
what works well for you! If you hate lifting weights, try a Bootcamp or
Kickboxing class. If you hate going to a gym, find a personal trainer that will
do house calls. If you don’t know what to cook or how to prepare food, get the
help from a professional. If you need an accountability partner, get a personal
trainer, schedule a fitness class, and/or make a friend date at the gym or to
go for a hike. If your back hurts, take a yoga class!!
Listen, we are all trying to survive in this crazy thing
called life. We need to start being honest with ourselves about what we want in
life, and stop making excuses.
Excuses are your pathway to failure. No one wants you to succeed
more than me. I live my life by what I preach and am living proof that
exercising and eating well is not only simple, but will make life a whole lot
easier to handle. If you feel awesome and energized because of your nutritional
choices and exercising… dealing with all the other crap thrown at you is a cinch.

I LOVE Chocolate
Chocolatey Goodness!!!
These are very delicious! I followed the exact recipe, and they were great.... but the next time I make them I will not add the powdered Stevia. I think they would have tasted more like chocolate and less sweet.
Enjoy!

Delicious Butternut Squash!
I made this a couple weeks ago and it was amazing!
I must say... I hate cutting butternut squash. I think it will be a veggie I only eat every once and a while;-) But, my husband even loved it.
This recipe is very bold and has a lot of flavor. Make sure you cut the Parsley in half if you are using dry seasoning. Also, use the real parmesan out of a tub, not the cheap kind you put on spaghetti.
Enjoy!

Counting Calories :-(
Must read article about counting calories! I have never been a fan of counting calories OR how low people keep their caloric intake when they are trying to lose weight.
This article says it perfectly! If you are a calorie counter or think less is better.... think again and read!

Practice Makes Perfect
I’m sure you have all heard the phrase, “Practice makes
perfect.”
I started playing softball when I was 8 years old. I
loooovvvveeeeddddd softball. So much that my mom used to say I had little
softballs running through my blood! I played for years and at a very
competitive level, hoping to someday play in college.
I practiced, practiced, and practiced. Batting, pitching,
fielding, and conditioning lessons. You name it and I was doing that here,
there, and everywhere. There were days when I prayed for rain in order to not
practice and days I wished it would stop raining so I could practice. There
were days when just running to first base was an effort and days when running
fifty billion laps around the field were a breeze. I even had a coach tell me I
was never going to be good enough to play in college…
After a lot of blood, sweat, and tears I got a softball
scholarship!!!
That moment I opened my scholarship letter made every single
hard day worth it. I had been playing hard, working my butt off, practicing,
falling and getting back up, making mistakes and learning from them, wanting to
quit, loving the journey, every emotion possible for 10 years… Just to realize
that persistence, practice, focus, and faith will get you results.
You might be wondering, “Where the heck is she going with
this?!”
It takes years for an athlete to learn a sport. Years of
practice and hard work to achieve the skills it takes to win a game. Time to
learn the mental toughness it takes to win, lose, and get over hard mental
blocks (like a batter striking out all the time because they think too much at
the plate).
Doesn’t this also convey into the areas of our life when it
comes to achieving the body composition we are striving for? Whether you are
trying to lose or gain weight, these principles are still the same.
It takes time, practice, patience, and perseverance to get
the fitness results you want! Does a football player just wake up one day
earning a million dollars? Does a skier just wake up one day and say, "Hey! I
think I’ll go to the Olympics this year?" Do you think they take weeks or months
off at a time and come back just as good as when they left? NO! These athletes
work very hard to get their bodies and minds ready for these events and games.
Apply this to your life… How long have you been trying to
lose weight? Have you been consistent in your practices to lose weight or have
you skipped one too many practices and private lessons?
Like I always say, it takes time to reach your fitness
goals. You must practice to reach those goals. Consistently practice, exercise,
healthy eating, and stress relief. All components of a healthy lifestyle!
Ladies and gentlemen, lets start practicing for our health!
Let’s be consistent with our practice and quit taking so many days off! No more
excuses, skipping the team meetings, self doubting at the plate, and lowering
our expectations. Even when you want to quit, keep your head high and your eyes
on the prize. Don’t let yourself or others around you say you can’t reach your
goals.
Your health is in your hands. Always practice the life you
want.

Febuary 14- Valentines Day!
Happy Valentines Day everyone! Although I think this is a stupid and rediculous holiday... It's still good to acknowledge those you love in your life!!
Speaking of love... let's chat for one second more about loving yourself before you get my work out I did yesterday.
We want so much to take care of our families first. We tend to put the things we want or need second, and only focus on your kids, jobs, husbands, sigificant others, parents... etc. But, how are we to take good care of them and most importantly, set a good example, if we do not take care of ourselves also?
I can't begin to stress how important it is to make time for yourself! Of course you know exercise needs to be on the top of your list to taking care of yourself. I have seen so many people come and go from the gym because they are letting "life" get in the way of their health and happiness.
You cannot take care of the ones you love if you do not take care of yourself!
Be the example, leader, and motivator. Take 30 minutes out of your day, 5 days a week. That's only 150 minutes total!!!! Pretty much how long it takes to watch a kids movie....
No more excuses. Take your health and fitness in your hands. Teach your kids the value of exercise and learn to do things as a family. Get to the gym, walk around the lake, take a fitness class, meet your girl friends for yoga. Don't let your health go to the way side before it's too late and your family has to take care of you.
LOVE YOURSELF! :-)
OK, enough weith the mush... here's the awesome back and biceps work out I did yesterday. The weights took about 30 minutes so make it happen!
25 minutes on the Bike
Wide Grip Lat Pull Down
Narrow Grip Pull Down
Bent Over Bar Bell Row with reverse grip
Single Arm Dumb Bell Row
- all exercises were medium weight 1x15, moderate to heavy weight 1x12, heavy weight 1x12- So I did three sets of each exercises and 10-15 reps of each getting heavier each set.
Dumb Bell Biceps Curl - I used 10 lbs dumb bells and did a whole bunch of different curls... probobly did about 50-60 reps, but I went until failure.
Landmine Row to Press 1x12 R/L
Landmine Trunk Twists 2x12 R/L
Stretch!!

To start this week, I'm showing you what my groceries look like! As you can see, lots of color!! Fresh and organic meat, eggs, nuts, dairy, fruit, and veggies!! There's not a whole lot of meat because my husband and I have a boat load of venison in our freezer:-) mmmmm!! Perks of being married to an outdoorsman!!
My grocery bill was only about $80.... So stop making excuses about eating healthy being too expensive!
Hope this helps! Enjoy!!:-)

Sweet and Savory Roasted Kale
Kale is so freaking good for you... I love it! It's full of vitamins and minerals that are awesome for living a healthy lifestyle and losing weight. It has a slightly bitter taste with a very hard stem, just like collard and mustard greens. I highly highly suggest adding this amazing vegetable to your weekly shopping list! It is also kind of tough raw, just like it's fellow greens. Roasting or steaming Kale is the easiest way to cook and consume it. Ever wonder just what is so amazing about Kale? Here are some fun facts:
Today, we roast our Kale! I used honey and Nutritional/Brewers Yeast as the flavoring. Most of you have never heard of Nutritional/Brewers Yeast before.Vegans will use N/BY a lot for flavoring instead of butter. It has a nutty and buttery taste. N/BY is also very good for you! Here are just some of it's healthy benefits:
All that being said, I'm sure you would like the recipe...

1 bunch of Kale
2 TBS olive oil
2 TBS Organic/Raw Honey (warmed up)
2 TBS Brewers/Nutritional Yeast
Pinch of salt
Here's the plan:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Wash your greens very very well, dry, and remove the hard stems. Tear your kale into lettuce size pieces and put in a large baggie. Drizzle olive oil, B/NY, and honey over kale in bag, zip, and shake the snot out of it, coating the leaves evenly. Get out your cookie sheet and cover it with parchment paper. Pour out kale and evenly spread on the paper and sprinkle pinch of salt on top. Place in oven and cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until kale is crispy. Let cool for about 5 minutes and DEVOUR:-)
My prayer for you is to live a FIT, FABULOUS, and HEALTHY LIFE:-)

BOSU Workout!
So there is this piece of equipment many of you have probably eye balled at the gym thinking, "What the heck is that?!"
Let me introduce you to the BOSU Ball. It has a round soft side just like a fit ball, but the other side is hard and flat, making it look like a bubble sitting on water. BOSU stands for "Both Sides Up." Pretty clever if you ask me :-) This ball is a great piece of equipment, I really wish I had invented it.. dang it!
I took a class in college one time called BOSU Blast... it bout killed me! But that's when I fell in love with this funny shaped ball.
Don't be fooled by it's pretty blue and half shape... because this thing is awesome! So awesome I decided to build my whole work out around it. I hope you have as much fun as I did:-) Next time you don't know what to do at the gym, just grab one of these bad boys.
BOSU Work Out!
30 Balance Squats- soft side down
15 R/L Skaters
15 R/L Static Lunge- back foot on ball
20 R/L Single Leg Hamstring Press
15 Supermans
15 Push Ups
20 Overhead Press - literally press the ball over your head
15 R/L Spidermans
15 R/L Single Leg Jackhammers
15 R/L Side Plank with Hip Dip

Green Apple and Coconut Bites
These are pretty amazing... but I realized I desperately need some silicone muffin liners! These suckers were very difficult to put on parchment paper;-) I followed the recipe to a T, but I think I'll add in some vanilla or vanilla stevia the next time I make it. Maybe cinnamon too... because you can never go wrong with adding more cinnamon!
Super easy and very healthy!! A lot of people don't know what coconut butter is, so I took a picture of the one I use. Believe it or not, I found it at Walmart!! Yes, it is different than coconut oil. You can actually make your own coconut butter, which I have done before. It's also very easy and here is the recipe http://paleomg.com/how-to-make-your-own-coconut-butter/
I love the paleomg.com blog. She has great recipes and it's a go to for me. Ok, go make some healthy food and be Fit, Fabulous, and Healthy on this Super Bowl Sunday! GO BRONCOS!!

Sabrina's Turkey Burger!
One of my clients gave me this recipe a long time ago… Wish
I had made them earlier! Dang! Well, at least I know now and love them!!! Here
you go!
1.25 lbs Turkey Burger
1 egg white
¼ tsp. minced garlic
Grated onion (to taste) I like onion so I did about ¼ cup!
½ finely chopped bell pepper (I used a red one)
¼ c chopped Italian Parsley
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
Cook on medium heat for about 12-14 minutes on each side.
*side note: turkey does not have much flavor, so I would
recommend playing around with the seasoning! Next time I will add season salt
and maybe some paprika!
Dressing:
¾ c Olive Oil
¼ c white balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp. Mustard (Dijon or regular)
Salt and Pepper to taste
I put two turkey patties on a salad with this dressing and
it was awesome!! It makes about 8 turkey burgers. I took the left overs with me
during the week for lunch with just a little dressing on the burgers plain. It
was amazing and filled me up!! I hope you enjoy!:-)
Loving Yourself.
I love coffee. I also love sitting in coffee shops on days that are dreary and rainy, like today:-). I love the way I feel after an awesome work out and a great home cooked (and healthy) meal. I love the career I have chosen for myself. I love that I just upped and moved a couple years ago to Georgia with nothing but what would fit into my car. I love my husband and our crazy families! I love my hair, eyes, and feet. I love my butt. Yep…. I said it! I love Sci-Fi movies, books, and TV shows, and am not ashamed to admit it. I love being short. Although it sometimes makes reaching for equipment at the gym a challenge, at least it makes my clients laugh! I love the life God has given me and the paths he has lead me down, sometimes they were rocky, sometimes silky smooth!
Do you have a love list? If not, make one now! Even before you keep reading the rest of this blog. Make a love list of all the things you love about yourself and your life.
Life is always going to test you. Bring you down or try to make you feel like you should pretend to be someone you are not. Especially when it comes to the way we view our fitness levels, looks, and bodies. All these skinny B****’s rubbing their fantastic bodies in our faces all day long. Look, I don’t know if anyone has told you this, but Hollywood is NOT REALISTIC! So why are we comparing ourselves to them??!!
We all want to look amazing and feel good about ourselves. That is just a given. But one thing we are forgetting is to love who we are today, right now. No ifs ands or buts about it.
I see it with my clients all the time, they have spent such a long time putting themselves down they can’t even see when they make improvements. They get mad when they only lost 5 lbs. because it wasn’t 10!!! If you are one of these people, constantly downing yourself, it needs to stop. This may sound mean or unsympathetic, but I am telling you this to get you to live a happier life. A happy person reaches their goals much faster!!
You can never change the body God gave you. If you are tall, you will never be short. If you are pear shaped, you will never be a beanpole. So stop trying to be someone you are not. I also don’t like the word “Fat,” or when people call themselves fat. Listen, it is great that you want to change your lifestyle, lose weight, feel great, and look awesome! But you have to learn to love who you are now and embrace the journey of becoming a healthier you. Not loath who you are now and think I’ll be happier once I…. lose weight, get skinny, blah blah blah.
Let’s try this again. “I love who I am. I have great legs and can’t wait to see what they look like in three months of whooping my booty at the gym!” OR “I love what I look like in skinny jeans, I can’t wait to see what I look like in 2 months after I’ve learned to drop a squat like a pro!”
I like to play a game with my clients. Every time they say something negative about themselves I make them say three things they love about themselves. It may not always be something physical, but it’s a darn good start to loving yourself.
Remember, you cannot change who you are!! Trying to will make this journey a miserable one. It will take much longer and you will have many setbacks. If you LOVE yourself and strive to live a healthy life, all the other puzzle pieces will fall into place.
Make a love list. Stop being negative. Embrace who you are. Strive to life a fit, fabulous, and healthy life!
